Four Tips for Buying Efficient Appliance Brands that Save
Money
One of most our important commodities is electricity, so it
is imperative that we use it with wisdom. By shopping for
more efficient appliance brands , you will not only save money you
will also help save the environment.
Read the label.
It is a requirement by the Federal Trade Commission that
manufacturers place Energy Guide labels on every appliance they
develop. You will find this piece of black and yellow paper hanging
on the appliance unit. This label will indicate the appliance's
energy efficiency rating , its estimated energy consumption yearly,
a comparable range of energy consumption and even it's efficiency
with other appliances . This should give you a pretty good picture
of how much energy the unit will consume. This efficiency label
will also enable you to make a more educated decision, by simply
comparing labels of different appliance brands.
Look for the Energy Star.
When this logo is accompanied with an appliance brand it implies
that the unit offers more in terms of energy efficiency than a
comparable model that does not have the Energy Star logo.
Appliances with the Energy Star logo have been tested and proven to
exceed the federal governments efficiency standards by at least 20%
to as much as 110% . So the Department of Energy and the
Environmental Protection Agency will give you there seal of
approval if you buy an appliance brand with the Energy Star
logo.
Size matters
In our society most people are actually convinced that 'bigger
is better. Although that may be true in some areas, when it
comes to appliances, it's often not. A 10' x 12' room, for
instance, doesn't require a Humongous 4.0 hp air conditioning unit.
You will get a cool room all right but if your not trying to
preserve meat, there is no need to use so much unnecessary energy
consumption.
If shopping for an appliance, always carefully measure and
determine whether the size is actually necessary. Even
energy-efficient larger appliances will, generally consume more
energy than their smaller counterparts.
Mind the numbers.
For example when comparing refrigerator brands, lower isn’t
always better, you'll have to find out what figures to take note of
and what to look for ,The lowest consumption per kilowatt-hours
(kWh) is the one that you will want to choose .This is a good
indicator of the amount of energy the appliance will consume. Pick
a higher HSPF or heating seasonal performance factor for heat
pumps. The best pick for dishwashers, is the one with a higher
energy factor.
Well there you have it hopefully this will help you save money
and help the environment next time your shopping for
appliances.
